The story begins in 1993, when Animari Dimitrova founded one of the first private theatre troupes in Bulgaria, Theatre Formation BIS BARD, registered as a non‑governmental organisation with the aim of creating, disseminating and producing art. The troupe’s goals were to affirm cultural values among young people, support gifted children, provide opportunities for young and talented artists to realise their potential and promote Bulgarian culture at home and abroad. Its members included both young and established Bulgarian actors, directors, choreographers, artists and musicians.
Over the next seven years the troupe produced 23 performances for adults and children, touring across Bulgaria and Europe. Thanks to the artists’ dedication, professionalism and tireless enthusiasm, BIS BARD won the love of audiences everywhere it went.
Through its children’s performances the troupe regularly visited children living in social institutions. These visits grew longer and evolved into individual creative activities, frank – and sometimes sad – conversations, fundraising initiatives for the homes and many other good deeds. A great friendship was born, which over time changed lives.
In 2005 the troupe decided to end its stage activities. They sold the theatre’s property and each member of the creative team went their own way. Two enthusiasts, Animari Dimitrova and Zlatko Zlatkov, stayed on and launched a civic programme called “Chance for the Young.” Aimed at children and youth in disadvantaged situations housed in specialised institutions, the programme sought to use the magic of art to help these children overcome isolation, difficulties and prejudice.
For eight years they focused all their energy and professionalism on children at risk, their development and their integration into society. Their team grew to include psychologists, educators, social workers, lawyers, doctors and economists. Together they implemented eight projects involving more than 1,700 children aged between 3 and 18, from 17 institutions across Bulgaria. Today, many of those children hold their lives and futures firmly in their hands.

Animari and Zlatko’s work continued in social homes. The children received all the love, warmth, attention and smiles the teams could offer, but every day also revealed the seriousness and depth of the problems facing them. A study showed that more than 35 % of children in disadvantaged situations were not demonstrating sufficient intellectual and technical potential, although every second child showed creative talent.
The pressing question became how to preserve and develop this wealth of smart and talented children rather than lose it. Without support, these children risk merging into the general group of ignorance, drugs, prostitution and crime. There was an urgent call to change the approaches, methods and forms of education, upbringing and integration. Short‑term projects were not enough; new ideas were needed to solve the problem of children at risk and to benefit both the state and society.
Recognising that good education is the foundation of a full life and a democratic society, and that art in all its forms is a key to social and spiritual change, Animari and Zlatko began work on a pilot project built on innovation, continuity, scale and sustainability.
This is where Association Rusalya comes into the story. As a public‑benefit NGO it assumed the heavy responsibility of building the first School of Arts and Crafts for socially disadvantaged children. This unique project took an alternative, unconventional approach to solving one of Bulgaria’s most serious problems: educating, nurturing and caring for children at risk – a problem for which state policy still had no solution. Animari and Zlatko’s courage and selflessness drew on their accumulated experience across different communities and social groups.
Their concept:
The choice of location for this innovative project was the result of two years of thorough research and planning. The school was established in the village of Rusalya in the Veliko Tarnovo region of central Bulgaria. The location meets the founders’ strategic
criteria: a central, quiet and peaceful place close to major university towns (Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven and Ruse) and to sites linked to Bulgarian tradition, culture and history (Etara, Dryanovo, Gabrovo, Tryavna, Troyan, Elena). To build the school complex, they purchased an old school and 26 decares of adjoining land.
Construction is taking place in stages. It includes the main building with primary and secondary courses, four boarding houses, a dining hall and two sports fields, a complex with a theatre hall, exhibition spaces and creative workshops, an open‑air amphitheatre, eco‑gardens, playgrounds, cycle paths and more. The project focuses on educating, nurturing and integrating at‑risk children who have clear talents in the arts. Its overarching goal is to help reduce low educational attainment, social and cultural marginalisation and segregation, and to curb the spread of hate speech in society. It provides a model for social and educational policy in which the education and upbringing of all Bulgarian children becomes a real national cause involving the state, business and society.
The Dimitar Ekimov School opened its doors on 15 September 2014. It is located in the village of Rusalya, Central Bulgaria. The site was chosen so that children could live in nature, in a quiet, peaceful and beautiful place, while remaining near large university cities and historic and cultural landmarks.
The school owns 26 decares of land on which it is gradually building a complex capable of accommodating up to 250 pupils. The first academic building and a two‑storey residential house with modern amenities have been completed. Work has begun on a dining facility
that will also house a psychologist’s office, a medical room and an infirmary. Future plans include a second academic building, a sports hall and two sports fields, an art complex with a theatre hall, exhibition spaces and creative studios, an open‑air amphitheatre, eco‑gardens, playgrounds, cycle paths and more.
Children come to the school from all over Bulgaria. They start in the pre‑school group and stay until graduating from upper secondary school. The curriculum includes compulsory general‑education subjects as well as mandatory study of the arts – theatre, music, dance and visual arts. From the next academic year the school will introduce specialised training in crafts typical for Bulgaria, applicable in contemporary business.
A pilot model has been introduced, based on alternative extracurricular activities and mentoring sessions that help develop each child’s emotional intelligence. Many of the children arrive with significant social, emotional and educational deficits; building their personalities requires helping them overcome these deficits and adopt new norms of behaviour and morality, and developing hygiene, work and learning habits.
The school relies on an individual approach, quality education, professional care, art activities and lots of love. Thanks to an exceptional team of teachers, mentors, creative experts, a psychologist and administrative and technical staff – people who have embraced the school’s mission and who love the children and Bulgaria – clear results are already visible.

Анимари е председател на Сдружение РУСАЛЯ и Сдружение ТФ БИС БАРД.
Тя завършва НАТФИЗ „Кръстьо Сарафов“ през 1983. До 1990 работи като актриса и режисьор в различни български театри.
През 1994, заедно с двама свои колеги създава Театрална формация БИС БАРД.
По нейна идея през 2000 година БИС БАРД стартира собствена гражданска програма за деца, лишени от родителски грижи.
От тогава работата с деца се превръща в главен приоритет. Събраният опит и знания през тези години водят до идеята за реализиране на Училище по изкуства и занаяти.

Златко завършва актьорско майсторство в НАТФИЗ „Кръстьо Сарафов“ през 1991.
Събира опит като актьор в частната театрална трупа „Перпетуум мобиле“. През 1998 постъпва в Театрална формация БИС БАРД, с която реализира редица постановки както в София, така и в цяла България.
Заедно с колеги от театъра стартира серия от детски театрални постановки за деца в неравностойно положение. От 2012 Златко е основна част от екипа на „Училище по изкуства и занаяти“.

Марияна завършва История във Великотърновски университет „Св. св. Кирил и Методий през седмото десетилетиe на изминалия век.
Работи в родната просвета до 1991г. От 2006 преподава в частни занимални в София.
Когато научава за изграждането на Училището по изкуства и занаяти, веднага се свързва с Анимари Димитрова и предлага да помогне доколкото има възможност и сили.

При Камелия всичко тръгна от там, че са й хвърлили пъпа в университета на времето и от там цялата работа се объркала.. Тя първо е завършила Американския Колеж във Велико Търново, не с една, а с две дипломи за средно образование – по Българската национална програма и по IBO (International Baccalaureate Diploma).
После пък постъпва в университет в Англия, University of Derby, да учи Бакалавър по Право и съвсем се обърква като остава още година след това да учи за Магистър по Корпоративно Международно Право, след което още една, да покрие и професионалната квалификация за юрист в Англия. С други думи, леко е прекалила със учението и доста й личи. Често пъти прави елементарни грешки, докато формира доста сложни изречение на няколко езика.
След 12 години в чужбина, Камелия е вършила какво ли не.. Последните 3 години от живота си преди да се завърне в родината, е отделила на Британското правителство, като там е оглавялала отдел във Вътрешно Министерство на Сигурността, в специален отдел по Имиграция – UK Visas and Immigration Department (UKVI). 10 години от общия й стаж е в сферата на имиграционните дела, което се дължи на любовта и интереса й към хората и свободата им да се движат, с цел да достигнат един по-добър живот.
На 30 години, Камелия се връща да живее в България, след като е решила да посвети живота си на децата и образованието в България.

Родом от гр. Кубрат, през 2008 г. завършва специалност “Български език и история” – бакалавърска степен във ВТУ ,,Св. Св. Кирил и Методий”, а през 2011 г. – магистърска степен по специалност “Масови комуникации и журналистика” в същия университет.
В ЧОУ ” Димитър Екимов” започва като учител по история и цивилизации през 2023 г., като през 2024 г. извоюва и ролята на Зам. директор по учебната дейност.
Шенсен има уникалното умение моментално да се свързва с децата, да разбира техните индивидуални нужди и да реагира дипломатично във всяка ситуация. Нейната прозорливост и богатия й дългогодишен професионален опит като мениджър в спедиторската индустрия я правят изключително ценен кадър в ръководството на училището. В свободното си време обича да чете както исторически книги, така и класическа художествена литература.

Моника Динова вече 17 години живее в град Велико Търново. Завършва средно специално образование в Професионална гимназия по туризъм „ Д-р Васил Берон“ със специалност Мениджмънт в туризма.
Продължава образованието си като придобива бакалавърска степ със специалност Социална педагогика – Социален педагог и учител по гражданско образование. Не се отказва от мечтата си да работи с деца и записва магистратура със специалност ПНУП – Педагог, детски и начален учител.
Веднага след завършването си започва да си търси работа и така попада в Русаля, където придобива и своя учителски стаж. Започва работа през 2020г. до 2023 г. като учител в подготвителна група. След кратко прекъсване се връща в Русаля през януари 2024г. като начален учител на 1 клас, което е и нейната мечта. През целия си период на работа преминава през различни обучителни курсове, които ще допринесат за продуктивността й на работа и за нейното професионално развитие.
Но не листовете хартия я правят добър учители, а любовта с която върши работата си, всеотдайността, подкрепата и разбирането спрямо децата.
Моника е упорита, взискателна, усмихната, емоционална, мечтаеща, искаща най – доброто, както в работата си, така и в живота.

Родена e през 1978г в гр. Велико Търново, където завършва Живопис и Педагогика на изобразителното изкуство през 2002 г., степен магистър във ВТУ “Св.Св. Кирил и Методий”.
От 2010 г. до 2016 г. е била учител в ОУ “Христо Ботев”гр.Велико Търново. След кратко прекъсване в търсене на себе си, Грета завършва курс по Професионален кино и театър грим в гр. София и малко след това започва работа като ментор и учител по рисуване в ЧОУ “Димитър Екимов” през 2018 г.
Тук, под нейно ръководство и напътствия, децата участват в множество конкурси, базари и търгове. Изработват и частни поръчки в техниката на стъклописта. Грета умело подготвя талантливите деца за кандидатсване в художествени гимназии, за да могат да реализират дарбите си и да се радват на успеха си.
Към днешна дата Грета продължава да преподава рисуване и прилага различни приложни техники, както и техники от арт терапията.
